The rapid growth in membership applications has been fuelled by a number of factors. First, as the international recognition of our Awards ceremonies has grown in recent years, so has interest in membership of the Academy amongst a wide cross-section of our industries. Pleasingly, this cross-section includes a large number of younger members, resulting in a more representative match with our industries than ever before. Secondly, the duties and benefits of membership have grown considerably, with access to more screenings and events and a parallel increase in the number of film distributors sending screeners at voting time as reminders of their work. This combination of increased recognition for our educational work and enhanced membership activity is a satisfactory outcome following several years of hard work by many people involved with the Academy, and we are proud of this achievement.
