The British Academy of Film and Television Arts, East Coast (BAFTA East Coast) was launched in February 1996 in New York City as the second affiliated organization of The British Academy in the United States. Headquartered in London and with a history that spans more than 50 years, the British Academy is the United Kingdom's leading organization in promoting and rewarding the best in film television and interactive media. Membership in The British Academy numbers over 6,500 worldwide, including regional affiliates BAFTA Scotland (Glasgow), BAFTA Cymru (Cardiff), BAFTA North (Liverpool) and BAFTA Los Angeles.
